Dr Muller is AMAZING with our special needs child; he is calm and creative and supports us as parents in getting through what is sure to be the most challenging part of our day
I have no complaints about the facility. It was very clean, I didn't have to wait long to have my kids seen, and the staff was friendly. I usually have to wait a while for the Dr, and the kids get antsy. I really appreciate the warm welcome and taking such great care of my kids.
My child had a terrible time with Dr Muller: his dental hygienist is horrible with children and made my child cry. I told the hygienist that her behaviour was inappropriate, and she basically sat there complaining about how awful children were, and how she had once been vomited on. I wrote a letter to Dr Muller to complain about him and his hygienist and requesting an apology but of course received no reply. My child had actually been looking forward to going to the dentist--but no longer! Thanks, Dr Muller! Thanks, Mean Dental Hygienist! I took my child to the State Street pediatric dentist in New Haven a week or so later, to try to have a positive experience, and they were actually wonderful. I wouldn't recommend the Children's Dental Associates--it's like the puppy mill of Hamden/New Haven pediatric dentistry. If they really focused on children, they would have staff who could handle a 7-year old.
We were super nervous bringing our 18 month old in for her first appt. as we had had only mild success instituting solid dental habits at home. The waiting room was pleasant with some toys, books, and a fish tank to pass the time and the wait was short (thankfully). The hygienist was very understanding, patient and gentle and managed to get all of the necessary tasks performed on a mildly reluctant toddler and backed off when it appeared she clearly needed a moment for some parental reassurance. Dr. Muller was outstanding coaching her and putting her at ease while he prepared to poke around. The second visit (2 year) was a little more involved and the initial appt. seemed to lay the groundwork to make the experience that much less foreign and scary so Dr. Muller and the hygienist could really do some serious dentist-type things (glad to say all was in order!). I also had a 3 month old along for the ride and the hygienists and everyone there treated her just as nicely as if she were a patient (which she soon will be). I read the other reviews and can understand the frustration of billing issues but i can't imagine having had such a horrible experience, its like we went to different places or perhaps had vastly different expectations. I would describe the clientele and staff as decidedly middle to upper class which as a New Haven resident i don't expect (though perhaps erroneously) State Street to be, though i couldn't say from actual experience, just my two cents.
My 5 yr old son wanted NOTHING to do with the dentist - period. I first took him to my "family dentist" that I went to when I was a child. They couldn't even get x-rays done with him! I was referred to Dr. Muller in Hamden and am sooooo thankful that I was. He is absolutely excellent with children, explains everything to them and is very catering. He has "a way" with kids and my son took to him the first time we were there. Today was his 3rd appointment within the past week. He needed a pulpotomy (baby root canal) Dr Muller is excellent, did a great job and most importantly my son was completely comfortable and pain free. No tears, no complaining, nothing. (His appointments with Dr Muller are easier than it is with his pediatrician getting shots) I am still in shock almost as to how well his appointment went. I no longer have anxiety about taking him to the dentist. Sometimes us parents worry more than our kids do. He never complains about going back to the dentist, never gets nervous about it - nothing. A total walk in the park. If you have a children take them here you will not be disappointed!
